New Acland Coal is offering “jobs for Christmas” as it looks to ramp up production.

The mine, located about 50km west of Toowoomba, is looking for semi-skill and skilled workers, along with managers, with remuneration started at $120,000 for truck drivers.

Mine manager Dave O’Dwyer said he was searching for talented, local operators and maintainers who want the lifestyle New Acland Mine provides.

“Coal for Christmas has never looked so good,” he said.

“Over the past year, plenty of new, old faces have returned to New Acland Mine, complementing the dozens of fresh faces who make up the growing team.

“It’s fantastic these workers can wave goodbye to the fly-in, fly-out lifestyle, which is common at many Queensland mines, and be home with the partners and children every single night.

“We’re proud to be a leading employer in the region, by offering well-paid, local jobs to hardworking Queenslanders.”

The mine sent it first shipment of coal overseas in October after it was given the green light for a massive expansion in early 2023.

It was cleared to extract coal from is Manning Vale East Pit and Willeroo Pit, which about for about 66 per cent of the Stage Three expansion.

The remaining portion – the Manning Vale East Pit – will be not be mined until the September 1, 2024 when the Queensland Government is expected to resolve a Land Court appeal in to its decision to grant a water license to the project.

While the operators have confirmed the mining of overburden and coal in Manning Vale West Pit is not expected before September 1, 2024, they can undertake surface works, including the building of infrastructure, exploration and bore drilling on the site.

“Expression of interest portals still open (on the New Acland Coal website) and a real message to get out there to everybody that’s put their expression of interest is we know you’re there,” Mr O’Dywer said

“It is great to see people reaching out to us.”
