Polling booths across southwest Queensland have opened as residents cast votes to choose their elected representatives for the next four years. Follow our blog here:

Polls have opened across Toowoomba and southwest Queensland for the state election, with seven seats up for grabs.

The Liberal-Nationals, who are looking to form government for the first time since 2012, are the favourites in Toowoomba North, Toowoomba South, Condamine, Southern Downs, Warrego, Lockyer and Scenic Rim.

While not as marginal as electorates up north or in the southeast, they will be nonetheless essential pick-ups if the LNP plans to reach the 47 it needs to govern on its own.
