Grey skies over Toowoomba made for a cool start to Boxing Day

Toowoomba City and northern suburbs registered up to 26mm of rain from 9am Saturday to 7am Sunday and a little more might be on the way.

The grey skies Toowoomba residents woke up to this morning might be with us for a while today but they could bring a little rain and keep it cooler than the predicted maximum of 26 degrees.

Meteorologist Lauren Pattie told The Chronicle from the Bureau of Meteorology this morning that Toowoomba could be in a few showers today though they will bring only a few millimetres to the rain gauge unless a storm develops later in the day.

“There is a trough to the west of Toowoomba which could move east this afternoon,” she said.

“That could bring storms later in the day but we’re not expecting too much rain otherwise.

“There will be a little cloud cover throughout the day and that might create a feel like temperature that is a little below the 25 or 26 degrees expected.”

Plenty of early morning risers were out enjoying a coffee on Margaret St in Toowoomba City on Boxing Day 2021.

Ms Pattie said Toowoomba City and suburbs to the north of the city received up to 26mm of rain between 9am Christmas Day and 7am Boxing Day but the rain was patchy with Toowoomba Airport registering just 4.2mm.

“The rain was mainly to the northern side of the city,” she said.

Toowoomba has an 80% chance of receiving between 5mm to 10mm of rain on Monday when the temperature range should be from a minimum of 18 degrees to a cooler maximum of about 24 degrees.
