While the cloudy conditions and threat of rain kept some Christmas Day picnickers out of Toowoomba’s parks, plenty of hearty souls braved the weather predictions to enjoy the great outdoors.

Laurel Bank Park and Queens Park in particular were well patronised during Christmas Day in Toowoomba.

One family took to a game of search and find in Queens Park but others took the more traditional approach to Christmas Day with games of cricket, touch football and badminton.

Twenty-two members of the Wilson and associated families – and two dogs – gathered in Laurel Bank Park for a picnic lunch and they didn’t take chances on the heavens opening.

The group attached together three portable marquees so their lunch wouldn’t be interrupted by any liquid falling from the skies.

However, though a couple of drops fell just before lunch, the weather remained fine and warm throughout the day.
