It’s been a long wait for avid festival-goers who have spent the last two years watching their favourite festivals cancelled as a result of the pandemic.
But a Saturday afternoon festival in Toowoomba was a sign that life for music-lovers is returning back to normal.
Queens Park was flooded with people from all over Queensland for The Backyard Series, created by the musical minds behind the popular festival The Grass is Greener.
With the likes of Peking Duck, Will Sparks, and Boo Seeka on the line-up, The Backyard Series was not one to miss.
Brisbane resident Kirsti Jones said it wasn’t her first time in Toowoomba, but coming to the Garden City for her first festival in a long time felt pretty special.
“I would say I’m pretty proud of the organiser because it’s a great vibe,” she said.
“If they did have another festival I would encourage people to come because it has really chill, laid back vibes.”
Gold Coast resident Karina Kelly said Backyard Series was her first festival back since the pandemic began.
“It’s bloody amazing, the festival is amazing, everyone is dancing in the rain and it doesn’t matter, everyone loves it.”
Ms Kelly said she normally stays closer to her home on the Gold Coast when it comes to festivals, but so much time without any live entertainment left her wanting to spread her wings a little further, and explore the rest of the state.
“Usually we stay a bit closer to home, but now we’ll just get to anything,” she said.
“Toowoomba is a beautiful town.”
The Backyard Series is brand new to the festival scene in Australia.
Toowoomba was just one stop on a tour of Queensland, which included Townsville, Mackay and Gladstone.
The festival targeted areas that were “often overlooked” for contemporary festivals.
The Backyard Series will hit Mackay on November 13, and Gladstone on November 20.
