About $2000 will be donated to a women’s charity after Toowoomba Bears Rugby Union Club celebrated its annual Ladies Day.
Held at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday, June 14, the day saw more than 100 wives, girlfriends, mums and sisters sip champagne on the sideline while the Bears blokes gave it their best on the pitch.
“It was a day to celebrate the women in the club who support the boys,” organiser Mia Rennick said.
“They give up their partners for two nights a week for training, and support them at the games.”
There was a series of raffles with the money raised going to Share the Dignity, a charity that provides sanitary products to women in need. The money raised through the event’s ticket sales will be spent on new uniforms.
Ms Rennick said the next charity event, an old boys day, will be held on July 5 and will raise money for men’s mental health.
“As the season draws to a close, unfortunately we won’t make it to the finals but we have a new coach and the community has really come back into the club,” she said.
