A resilient and compassionate Darling Downs town has raised more than $10,000 for the family of a five-year-old girl whose life was tragically cut short.
The Cambooya State School year 1 student, Sadie, was killed in a car crash at Vale View on May 10, 2025.
Weeks after the devastating loss, the town of Cambooya, southwest of Toowoomba, hosted a fete and fundraiser for what should have been the little girl’s 6th birthday party.
Cambooya locals Mandy Walker and Kelly Sutton, who organised the event at Cambooya State School on Saturday, June 7, 2025, raised $10,124.49 in support of Sadie’s family.
Ms Sutton said the event, Sadie’s Day Out, wouldn’t have been possible without the donations and support of countless businesses across the Toowoomba region, who donated their services, time, and produce.
Ms Sutton, who runs the Cambooya State School tuck-shop, said she was wholeheartedly thankful to everyone who attended and supported the event.
Ms Sutton said she was “blown away with the support,” and named a handful of businesses who made the event possible, including the Brakener Lodge, the Windmill Bakery, O’Donnell’s Bakehouse, Homestyle Bake, Pittsworth IGA, Westbrook IGA, and the Emu Creek pig farm.
“We’ve had heaps of donations from the local community and all the farmers,” she said at the event.
“It shows that the community cares about everyone, it’s a good way of getting people together and helping each other.
“It’s very overwhelming, obviously it’s a sad situation, but we wanted to make it a celebration of her birthday, as per her family’s wishes.”
A GoFundMe was also opened to help support Sadie’s family in their time of need, however the family is to be able to access the funds.
