A Kingaroy woman has faced Toowoomba court after she was caught driving unlicensed through the streets of Toowoomba with methamphetamine in her system.

On Thursday, February 9, former Kingaroy cafe owner Tambrey Lee Morris pleaded guilty to drug driving unlicensed, and contravening a probation order for drug possession.

Police prosecutor Kinsley Weir told Toowoomba Magistrates Court the 31-year-old woman tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis when officers pulled her over on June 7.

Magistrate Claire Kelly said the pregnant woman was on probation for other matters after being sentenced in March 2022 and she then breached the sentence on July 12, because she had drugs in her possession.

The court was told Morris spent time in custody from July through to December in 2022, and she was due to give birth in March or early April.

After she was released from custody, Ryan McCullough said Morris spent time at Toowoomba rehab facility Sunrise Way.

Mr McCullough said Morris was sober for seven years but she turned to drugs in 2021 when her life spiralled out of control, which included periods of homelessness.

Mr McCullough told Ms Kelly that Morris had more serious charges before the Supreme Court and he wanted a number of outstanding charges adjourned to be mentioned at the same time as the other matters.

Morris’s outstanding 10 matters included the following charges; drug possession, possessing drug utensils, possessing something used in the commission of crime, and contriving the direction of police.

Ms Kelly fined Morris $350, disqualified her licence for three months, and placed her on a three month suspended prison sentence.

The above outstanding charges, and Morris’s Supreme Court matter, will next be mentioned in court on March 14.

Her bail was enlarged.
