Barrie Robran’s granddaughter posts teary tribute online as niece Jade leaves FIVEaa studio live on air following ‘tragic news’

Barrie Robran’s granddaughter has shared an emotional video in honour of the late football legend, as a brekky radio presenter made an unexpected exit live on air after receiving the “very tragic news”.

Barrie Robran’s granddaughter has shared an emotional tribute to the late football legend, saying she hopes to “do him proud” going forward.

Brooke Robran, the daughter of Barrie’s son, Crows premiership player Matthew, remembered her grandfather’s kindness to everyone he met in a video posted on social media.

“Today’s a hard day for my family and you know, everyone in South Australia loved him and I just hope that I can carry a part of that on,” Brooke said through tears.

“Everyone that he met he was so lovely to and I think it’s important that we continue to hold onto that and do him proud going forward.

Brooke, who has almost 90,000 followers on Instagram, also posted a story of her and her siblings by Robran’s statue outside Adelaide Oval.

“We love you forever, rest easy Grandpa,” she wrote on the story.

It comes as popular radio and TV personality Jade Robran made an early exit from her morning radio gig on Wednesday, with her co-host revealing the experienced journalist had received “tragic news”.

Robran was live on air for FIVEAA’s Winter Breakfast show with Tom Rehn as the duo continue to fill in for Will Goodings and David Penberthy who are on holidays.

She was presenting as normal up until just before 7am – then Rehn revealed Robran’s abrupt exit after the station’s 7am news.

“Jade unfortunately has had to go home, there has been some unexpected and … very tragic news, there’s been a death in her family so we wish Jade all the very best,” he said.

“Hope you’re okay, Jade, if you’re driving home listening right now … Jade we love you, we hope you’re okay with the rest of the family.”

“Hopefully she’ll be back tomorrow. That’s very very sad news.”

Her exit on Wednesday came just hours before The Advertiser reported her uncle Barrie Robran – one of South Australia’s greatest footballers – died, aged 77.

The champion North Adelaide utility, who has a statue at Adelaide Oval in his honour, is a triple Magarey Medallist and Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend.

Robran has served as FIVEAA’s roving reporter since February 2024 after previously hosting the station’s afternoons show for two years.

She worked in television for 15 years and is known for her time in Melbourne working for Channel 7.
