A 66-year-old man arrested for possessing 20 cannabis plants

A 66-year-old man from Peterbourgh allegedly tried to attack police officers with a knife and brick, moments before 20 cannabis plants were found in his backyard.

A 66-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking police officers with a knife and brick, moments before they found 20 fully grown cannabis plants in his backyard.

After a public tip-off, police officers conducted a drug search at a property in Peterbourgh on Monday, February 27, about 11am.

On arrival, police say they were confronted by the 66-year-old resident who allegedly proceeded to threaten officers with a brick, and then with a knife.

Police were able to negotiate with the man to discard the knife, but as officers approached, the man allegedly attempted to punch them before he was restrained and arrested.

Once police were able to safely conduct a search of the property, they allegedly uncovered 20 mature cannabis plants growing in the backyard.

Officers from the Jamestown, Hallett, Yunta and Traffic Support Branch officers were in attendance during the arrest.

The man was charged with cultivate a commercial quantity of controlled plant, assault prescribed emergency worker and carrying an offensive weapon.

He was bailed to appear in the Peterborough Court on April 19.

Anyone who provides information will remain anonymous.

This follows the arrest of a 38-year-old Parafield Gardens man, who was in possession of 100 cannabis plants at the property.
