A man and a woman have been arrested after a traffic stop in the northern suburbs uncovered a stack of drugs and cash.

A man and a woman have been arrested after a traffic stop allegedly uncovered 60 grams of cocaine and thousands of dollars stashed in a car.

About 6.40pm on Sunday police spotted an orange Mercedes Benz travelling on Main North Road at Smithfield.

Northern District patrols stopped the car and spoke to the driver and passenger. A police search of the car allegedly uncovered more than 60 grams of cocaine – believed to be worth tens of thousands of dollars – in the front passenger footwell. Also allegedly in the car and hidden in their clothing was $2450.

The drugs and money were seized for forensic examination.

The driver, a 37-year-old man and the passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Gawler East were arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug and money laundering.

The pair were refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
