Police allege Mount Julian woman was drunk during multiple traffic incidents on Conway Rd

A 43-year-old Whitsunday woman was allegedly ‘walking in the middle of the road’ away from her own car crash when a 17-year-old allegedly hit her with his car.

Police allege a 43-year-old Mount Julian woman was “heavily intoxicated” when she crashed her car at Preston then got hit by another car as she went looking for help.

Proserpine police Senior Constable Alan Davis said the woman was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Conway Rd, opposite the Taylorwood Tourist Park, about 7.55pm on Tuesday, June 29.

She left the scene on foot and about 8.30pm, allegedly walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The woman received multiple injuries and required surgery at Mackay Base Hospital.

She was subsequently taken to Townsville Hospital and was in a stable condition on Monday.

Senior Constable Davis said the 17-year-old Palm Grove man that allegedly struck the woman with his vehicle was unlikely to be charged over the incident as the woman was “walking in the middle of the road” at the time.

Investigations are ongoing.
