A cyclist in his 60s has been taken to hospital after a collision

A busy Glenella road is closed to drivers during peak-hour traffic while emergency services attend the scene.

A cyclist has suffered injuries to his head and face after a collision with a car in peak-hour traffic.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a crew was called to the scene along Glenella Connection Rd in Glenella at 4.30pm.

She said a male cyclist in his 60s was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said they were called to the crash to close off the area to traffic.

He said this included stopping traffic at the intersection of Heaths Rd and Fursden St before the roundabout connecting to Glenella Connection Rd.

Diversions remain in place.

The spokesman said police were investigating the incident.
