NAMED: Charges laid over fatal three-vehicle crash in Cannon Valley

A man accused of causing a fatal three-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a beloved local has had his matters adjourned.

A man charged with allegedly causing the death of another motorist is yet to front court as he is in custody on other matters.

Raymond Charles Sielaff was due to appear for the first time in Proserpine Magistrates Court after being charged with driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons causing death, and drug driving.

Police will allege the 33-year-old from Mornington had meth in his system when a triple-vehicle crash occurred in Cannon Valley.

Beloved Whitsunday community member Steven Bowen, 63, was tragically killed when his ute, a truck and a motorhome all collided on July 28, 2025.

Police allege about 10.30am Mr Bowen had been travelling south on Shute Harbour Rd when the truck Mr Sielaff was driving allegedly crashed into the back of his vehicle, pushing it into the opposite lane where it was T-boned by a motorhome.

Mr Bowen tragically died at the scene, while Mr Sielaff was flown to hospital in a critical condition.

The four people in the motorhome, which was driven by an international tourist, were taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

The driver of the motorhome was not charged.

Rosemary Varley from Legal Aid Queensland, who appeared as town agent for Legrady Law, told the court Mr Sielaff appeared to be in custody on other matters.

She was uncertain whether a brief would be required.

His appearance was excused and Ms Varley requested the matters be adjourned to December 8.
