The Metropole Hotel in Proserpine may soon include a beer garden and new bar.
Plans to expand the pub have been in the works since 2022, with a proposal and designs to transform Cafe on Main at 74 Main St into a new lounge area and extended gaming room approved in 2023.
As of writing these plans have not been acted on.
Now renders tease a revitalisation to the Hotel’s facade, with a new bar and beer garden proposed to council as part of the development application.
The expansion proposes extending the existing hotel into the local heritage listed Foxlee Building at 70 Main Street and establishing a beer garden behind it.
Currently no changes to the Foxlee building’s frontage on Main St have been proposed.
Instead the development application focuses on expanding the hotel to the interior of this building, using it for storage and office spaces.
But it specifies the space may be used as a gaming room or dining area in the future.
The beer garden behind the Foxlee Building would hold 14 shaded picnic tables on an area of 288 sq m surrounded by “as much vegetation as is reasonably possible” including four trees.
A new bar would be built from a shed at the rear of 74 Main St.
Added business from the expansion is expected to result in a shortfall of 11 parking spaces, however planners have argued that due to the availability of parking and timing of their active hours, this shortfall should be negated.
Brisbane based Metropole Hotel owners Waymark Hotels have been contacted for comment.
