A new fish and chips shop promising fresh produce straight from the Whitsundays is expanding its business to Proserpine.
Fresh Island Seafood (FISHI), a Cannonvale seafood business founded in 2013, will be taking over Fish Amours at 174 High St on the Bruce Highway.
FISHI, which also operates a fish and chips van in front of its William Murray Dr business, bought the location in a bid to expand business.
FISHI owner Bronwyn Calder said opening another store was a natural progression.
“Being on the highway, it’s a great location,” Ms Calder said.
“I’m excited about this expansion and taking our offering not only to locals but especially travellers on the highway.”
Promoting their seafood as ‘Whitsundays Wild’, Ms Calder emphasised FISHI’s commitment was to keep the supply local.
“There’s a lot of fish and chip shops that do coral trout, but it’s not Australian,” she said.
“Ours is and we’re really proud of that.
“The squid’s Australian, the coral trout is Australian and the Spanish mackerel is Australian.”
Ms Calder hoped the new location will widen the reach of their brand and raise awareness of their seafood as “premium product”.
Currently FISHI are looking for to eight new cooks and retail staff to work at the Proserpine location.
Preferred applicants will either live in Proserpine or able to travel to the store easily.
“We’re looking at older and younger applicants,” Ms Calder said.
“We’ll need people to fill our weekend shifts.”
Ms Calder highlighted they were happy to train newcomers to seafood and the main thing they wanted in applicants was enthusiasm and love of the product.
FISHI is looking to open its new store by Late September.
