Gerri Kissner, Sergeant Nigel Dalton lauded in Neighbourhood Watch gong

Neighbourhood Watch Australasia’s top two awards have been presented to two Mackay and Whitsunday community members in acknowledgment of their dedication to their region.

Two dedicated community members have received a top gong from Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.

Gerri Kissner, of the Mackay Northern Beaches Neighbourhood Watch group, received the NHWA Malcolm Grant OAM Volunteer of the Year Award 2022.

Mackay police sergeant Nigel Dalton was also awarded the NHWA 2022 Police Commissioner’s Award, with both awards recognising those empowering people and communities.

Congratulating both awardees, Whitsunday MP Amanda Camm said it was “an incredible achievement” that the recipients were both from the local region.

“I understand this is the first time in the history of the NHWA awards that both winners have been selected from the same region, in the same state,” Ms Camm said.

“And to me that says that our police and community are working together in a way that is gaining national attention.

“(It) speaks of the impact they make with their work, and we thank them.

“A huge thank you to Nigel and Gerri for their hard work and devotion to our region.”

In 2020, Ms Kissner was one community member nominated for Mackay Regional Council’s Selfless Seniors exhibition.
