A Bowen man who was ordered to pull over, evaded police by dangerously overtaking other cars and driving through a barbed wire fence.

The incident occurred at 2.50pm on August 11.

Brandon Allan Lakotic-Fuller did not stop when Bowen police officers directed him to park as they were doing patrols but instead started frantically racing through the streets of Bowen.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Emma Myors said Lakotic-Fuller had crossed onto the wrong side of the road, overtaking a number of vehicles that “had to pull up” due to his manner of driving.

Lakotic-Fuller then accelerated, taking a sharp right turn onto a dirt road before driving through a barbed wire fence to evade police.

Sergeant Myors said police officers were able to arrest him in a paddock.

Lakotic-Fuller, who represented himself, did not wish to add any comment when asked by Acting Magistrate Michael Bice.

Sergeant Myors told the court Lakotic-Fuller had been driving on a SPER-suspended licence at the time of the offence, which had been suspended following a drug-driving offence in February.

He did not have a criminal record.

She told the court he had failed to appear before court at the first appearance, and had later told police officers at the Bowen police station that he had pleaded guilty online.

Lakotic-Fuller pleaded guilty in front of the Bowen Magistrates Court to driving without due care and attention, to driving on a SPER suspended licence, to evading police and failing to appear in accordance with undertaking.

Mr Bice told Lakotic-Fuller it was within range for him to send him to prison for 15 days, or impose a hefty fine.

“Which one do you want?” Mr Bice asked, to which Lakotic-Fuller responded the latter.

He was fined a total of $8800 and his licence was disqualified for two years and one month.
