Residents in Beaudesert, Boonah and Springbrook have been told to remain on high alert with a severe thunderstorm “redeveloping” in the area over the coming hours.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned residents of intense rainfall likely to lead to flash flooding for the South East from 7pm on Monday night.

“A trough of low pressure in the South East and a moist environment is triggering thunderstorms with locally intense falls,” the warning said.

Residents are urged to park undercover, close doors and windows and to stay indoors unless necessary.

Weather enthusiast Dylan McKenna took to social media on Monday after Beaudesert copped a hammering that created major flash flooding.

“More than 70mm fell in just under 40 minutes,” the post read.

“Truly incredible. I’ve lived in Beaudesert pretty much my whole life apart from the last three years and we rarely saw water over the road.”

Earlier today another severe thunderstorm warning had been issued for people in parts of Logan, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast council areas, regions that have consistently been hammered by months of wild weather.

The bureau warned it had detected a severe thunderstorm that’s likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding near Beaudesert and Canungra about 1:30pm on Monday.

Forecasters expected the slow moving thunderstorm to impact Nerang and Mount Tamborine by 2:00pm and Tamborine by 2:30pm.

The warning said a moist unstable air mass combined with a slow moving trough would generate severe thunderstorms about South East Queensland.

Locations which may be affected include Ipswich, Beenleigh, Beaudesert, Jimboomba and Mount Tamborine.

As of 2.30pm, the bureau said the severe storms over the South East had eased but warned the redevelopment of severe thunderstorms remained possible.

“The situation is being closely monitored and further detailed warnings will be issued as necessary,” they said.
