Weather To Watch

Queenslanders will get a taste of the warmer weather to come as temperatures soar above 30C today, following a week of turbulent spring conditions.

The sun will shine on most of the state across Saturday with the temperature expected to reach 30C in Brisbane, 34C for parts of the Peninsula and a scorching 38C at Doomadgee in the Gulf Country.

BOM has advised people to make sure they use sun protection between 8am and 3pm with the UV index predicted to reach very high in the state’s southeast.

The forecast paints a different picture to last Monday when sleet dusted the Granite Belt.

BOM meteorologist Livio Regano said it was normal to experience swings in weather during spring.

“Spring by its nature is volatile,” he said.

“It’s the time of year when the winter and summer weather patterns are battling it out to establish their territory.”

Friends Patrick Fraser and Carter Hamley, from Sandgate, were captured cooling down at Maroochydore on Friday as the weather began to warm up.

A cool change is expected to move across the Darling Downs on Sunday before reaching the coast on Monday when temperatures are expected to drop back below average.

There’s a chance of showers for Brisbane tomorrow and on Monday.
