Several fires have broken out across Queensland as dry air and gusty winds create a ‘very high danger’ fire rating for the majority of the state.

Grass fires were reported on Wednesday from the Gold Coast right up to Townsville, where three fire trucks were called to Burdell on Wednesday morning.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a warning of “stay informed” for residents of Burrum Heads, in the Fraser Coast, just after 2pm, as authorities closed roads and worked to contain the blaze.

The fire is burning between Torbanlea St and Bushnell Rd, with one resident posting to social media “don't worry the pub is not on fire.”

“Stay safe everyone. And to the fireman, you all do a great job thank you,” another resident posted.

Earlier, QFES issued an “avoid smoke” warning for Shoalwater Bay, near Rockhampton, after 10am.

A fire also broke out west of Agnes Waters at Eurimbula, where six trucks were required, while further south, four trucks were called to Lake Wivenhoe, north-west of Brisbane, just after lunch.

BOM meteorologist Helen Reid this week said dry air and gusty winds coming from the south would elevate the fire danger on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A ‘very high fire danger’ rating was issued for 10 of the 15 weather forecast districts across the state on Wednesday.

The rating is expected to remain for the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Peninsula and Central Highlands and Coalfields on Thursday, as the rest of the state moves to a high or moderate rating.
