Brisbane’s brief break from frosty mornings is over, with parts of Queensland shivering through subzero temperatures overnight, some areas plunging as low as -1.8C and a “feels like” temperature of -5.7C shortly after 6am.
Meteorologist Harry Clark said on Monday colder weather was expected to linger for several days.
“We had a trough push through southeast Queensland (on Monday), which dragged down warmer air from the north of Queensland down to the southeast. The moisture and the clouds also act as a bit of a blanket and doesn’t allow heat to escape at night,” he said.
A drier westerly wind change has now moved in behind the trough, bringing clear skies and a return to cooler mornings.
“We will have sunny conditions throughout the week with fairly comfortable daytime temperatures,” he said.
“There’s a slim chance of rain on Thursday but only for that one day.”
The coldest conditions were felt across the Darling Downs on Tuesday morning, with Wellcamp Airport and Applethorpe both recording -1.5C, and Oakey dipping to -1.8C. Toowoomba was the warmest spot in the region, though still chilly at 6.2C.
In southeast Queensland, Canungra dropped to 1.1C, Amberley plummeted to 1.4C with a “feels like” temperature of -6.6C, and Gatton recorded a low of 2.5C.
