A thunderstorm warning for South East Queensland has now been cancelled, with the Bureau of Meteorology saying the immediate threat of storms had passed.
However, conditions will continue to be monitored an further warnings issued if necessary.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning remains current for parts of the Central West, Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.
The bureau also warned of more thunderstorms developing on Friday, with the southern interior and South East Queensland on alert for heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail.
Brisbane, Gold Coast and some parts of the Sunshine Coast woke up to fog this morning, which forecaster Patch Clapp described as “unusual to see it at this time of year”.
“Everything lined up: we’ve had onshore winds that are quite moist and there have been lighter winds.
“Clear skies mean the winds aren’t blowing it away because we saw fairly mild conditions overnight and through that humid air, we saw that fog develop.”
