Close friends of Energex meter reader Kane Minion, who was fatally mauled by two dogs on a Greenbank property last weekend, have launched a GoFundMe to help support the family of the “lover of life”.
Mr Minion was trying to read an electrical meter at the Ison Rd property on December 3 when he was attacked by a Bandog Bullmastiff cross and a Rhodesian ridgeback cross.
Emergency services found the 42-year-old contractor unconscious in the front yard of the property about 10:45am, but he died a short time later.
Krystal Haskett, who organised the GoFundMe, described Mr Minion as “one of the most remarkable human beings to have ever walked this earth”.
“A friend to everyone and anyone,” Ms Haskett wrote.
“A true lover of life. A comedian.”
Ms Haskett said Mr Minion had been “eagerly planning” his upcoming wedding to fiance Toni Baird, who he had been engaged to for less than a year, after proposing on December 24, 2021.
She said the couple had already spent “a decade of life in love together”.
“He loved animals and creatures of all kinds. Most of all Kane loved his friends, his family and his fiance Toni,” Ms Haskett wrote.
“Kane was kind, he was gentle and he was a friend to so many. The type of friend you could really count upon. A best friend.
“Taken so suddenly, too soon.
“Without a chance to say goodbye .
“We are broken.”
Ms Haskett encouraged others to ease the “outrageously heavy burden” and “show your love and support for Toni and Kane’s families”.
“Together we can help them get through this tremendously hard time,” she wrote.
Earlier this week, Logan City Council confirmed that two dogs that were seized from the property, had been “swiftly and humanely euthanised” on Tuesday.
“On Tuesday, after advice that Queensland Police had completed the relevant part of its investigation, the dogs were swiftly and humanely euthanised,” the council said in a statement.
“Council strongly promotes responsible pet ownership and has zero-tolerance for dogs that act in, or might be kept in, a way that could compromise community safety,” the statement read.
Meter readers had visited the property multiple times in the past, with the dogs usually kept behind a second fence.
A sign on the front gate of the property reads: ‘Warning - Guard dogs on duty’.
Mr Minion had worked for Downer Group’s Skilltech for seven years but was working as a contractor for Energex at the time.
Queensland Police said investigations into the incident are continuing.
