The two dogs that viciously attacked and killed a meter reader while at work at a property south of Brisbane have been put down.

Kane Minion, 42, died after he was attacked by a Bandog Bullmastiff and a Rhodesian ridgeback cross while working as a contractor for Energex at a home at Greenbank on December 3.

The dogs had been impounded by animal control officers at the Logan City Council while Queensland Police conducted an investigation.

Today, the council confirmed both dogs had been put down.

“Earlier this week, the owners of the dogs legally surrendered the animals to council

to allow the matter to be dealt with in the best interest of public safety,” a council spokesman said.

“Yesterday, after advice that Queensland Police Service had completed the relevant

part of its investigation, the dogs were swiftly and humanely euthanised.”

While the police investigation has finished, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) said they were still investigating the tragedy.

“Further enquiries into the work activity will form part of the investigation.

“The investigation is in its early stages,” a WHS spokesman said.

Council also said they would continue to advocate for tougher dangerous dog legislation following Mr Minion’s death, including sharing all information relating to the location of menacing or dangerous dogs with relevant stakeholders in the City of Logan.

“Logan City Council continues to work with a recently formed taskforce which is

reviewing the Queensland Government’s Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act

2008,” a Council spokesman said.

“This review aims to promote greater levels of public safety through a reform of the

legislation responsible for managing dangerous dogs within the community.”

The news comes after close friends of Mr Minion gave an emotional tribute to a man they said was the type of mate who would make sure his friends were “safe”.

Detectives from the Logan Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate the matter in preparation for a report for the Coroner.
