The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

New information has been revealed about the man who died after he was struck by a semi-trailer near Warwick last week, as the police investigation into the horrific crash continues.

The 26-year-old Warwick man was a pedestrian on the New England Highway when he was hit by the truck just before 11am Friday, with the impact killing him instantly.

The man driving the truck was uninjured.

Both lanes of the major route were closed to all traffic for several hours following the shocking incident, and people were urged to avoid the area while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said the circumstances of the crash were still being investigated by the Toowoomba Forensic Crash Unit.

“They’re looking at dashcam footage, and they’ll inspect the truck and all that sort of thing to make sure everything was working,” he said.

Friday was a devastating day on the roads for Warwick, with the fatal crash coming only hours after a separate incident in which a truck ploughed into a Warwick nursery on the northern side of the town, closing lanes on the Cunningham Hwy.

Both collisions remain under investigation.
