Warwick’s U21 cricket team will be coached by some of the best in the sport before battling it out in a friendly match against Nudgee College on Saturday.

The day is designed to expose the Warwick athletes to opportunities and careers in sports, and offer the chance for feedback and guidance from some of the best coaches in the state.

Warwick coach Graham Bourke said opportunities like this did not come often for regional Australia, and it’s a great chance for the Warwick team to learn sporting skills and understand there are many chances to excel in sport.

“It’s a rare opportunity to play against a strong first XI and get coaching from four of the best coaches in Queensland,” Bourke said.

“Nudgee came last year and were very impressed by our cricketers, so they decided to come back this year and our boys have been practising for four weeks and really looking forward to it.

“It’s great for the juniors as it’s an incentive to keep practising and grow as a cricketer and for them to know that there are higher levels they can strive to and have future in sport.”

Nudgee cricket director Tim Lang said the Warwick cricket team and wider sporting community appreciated the relationship that has been built with the school and the regional sporting club.

“It’s a big part of giving back and coming together as a group and organise and help in the Warwick clinic, and facilitate that next generation of talent,” Lang said.

“There’s so many opportunities that a lot of people just don’t know about, the possibilities are endless. There’s more opportunities than ever before in cricket.”

All the action will kick off from noon Saturday at Slade Park, with spectators urged to head down and watch the free friendly match.
