Growing up in a small country town hasn’t hindered the success of these Southern Downs and surrounds born and raised rising social media sensations, with some now exceeding more than 100,000 followers across various platforms.
Warwick Daily News first trawled social media platforms in 2021 in search of who from the region was captivating audiences on the internet and uncovered a wide range of talent.
We’ve gone back through each platform to see who of the region’s influencers is making the most noise on each social media platform.
From entrepreneurs, artists, businesses, presenters, models and travel bloggers the list is impressive and full of talent.
My Notes From / Lara Flanagan
Tenterfield photographer Lara Flanagan who is better known on social media platforms as ‘My Notes From’ has been capturing self portraits, as well as landscapes from around the region since 2021.
Lara’s personal blog encapsulates more than a decade in photography, as well as her inspiration behind recent projects ‘I am sessions’ and ‘Water Warrior Project’.
Since its inception in 2015, My Notes From has captured more than 3000 Facebook followers, as well as an Instagram audience of over 12,000.
Corinagrahamdementedartistgr / Corina Graham
Demented Artists Group Inc Warwick founder Corina Graham has been helping improve the lives of those on the Southern Downs and surrounds battling mental health through art since early 2014.
Her positive influence and impressive artistic ability has seen a reach of more than 8000 followers on Instagram, with the group’s Facebook page gathering an audience of more than 4000.
Corina’s artwork has also featured in exhibitions at the Warwick Art Gallery.
Rettgrayson / Loretta Grayson Art and Craft
Warwick based artist Loretta Grayson’s impressive crafty artworks have been featured in the annual Jumpers and Jazz in July “yarntopian” events, co-ordinating the yarn bombing tram since 2014.
Craft isn’t the only art form up Loretta’s sleeve, creating her unique works in the forms of oil pastel paintings, gouache and acrylic paintings, collage and mixed media landscapes, and fine art prints.
Her works have captured the intrigue of more than 14,000 social media users on both Instagram and Facebook.
Story Book Cakes / Karyn and Mark Mills
Since founding the family run catering business in 2009, Warwick residents Karyn and Mark Mills’ small business has skyrocketed in recent years, with the couple now offering an array of budget friendly, delicious dessert mixes that you can bake at home.
Catering for all dietary needs, there’s something on offer from Story Book Cakes for everyone.
Baking their goods from home, their decadent cake mixes can be found in retail stores across the Southern Downs and afar.
The family business has even taken out business excellence, food and beverage and cake design awards.
Their social media platforms have captured an audience of more than 10000 followers on Facebook and almost 3000 on Instagram.
Danica Maree / danicamaree3
Blogger and fitness coach Danica Schnitzerling has grown quite the YouTube audience since she began posting lifestyle and fitness content in 2016.
Now boasting more than 7000 subscribers, as well as a growing platform on both Instagram and Tiktok.
You can find Danica working to help others achieve their health and fitness goals at Toowoomba-based gym The Bar Health and Fitness.
Buffalobillswestern / Nick Martin
Family owned and operated Buffalo Bills Western has stores in both Warwick and Coolalinga in the Northern Territory.
Owner Nick Martin has continued to keep audiences entertained across the businesses social media platforms, gaining a following of almost 60,000 across Tiktok and Instagram.
Mads.fit — ness / Maddy Ross
Fitness coach and blogger Maddy Ross has exploded on social media platforms Instagram and TikTok, with a combined reach of more than 190,000 followers.
Continuing to grow her audience on the increasingly popular social media networking platform Threads.
Dated / Joshua Simpson
Cinematographer Joshua Simpson has come a long way from his time living on the Southern Downs, now having launched his own line of branded merchandise.
Producing clear cut quality images and videos, his content has encapsulated a combined audience of more than 180,000 across social media platforms Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok and Facebook.
Sakara — bell
Now based in the UK, former Warwick girl Sakara Bell’s career in social media has landed her an impressive audience of almost 100,000 across both Instagram and TikTok.
The sports journalist and presenter is also a model and former reality TV star who featured in the 2017 season of First Dates Australia.
In the same year she was also crowned a Miss World Finalist and told the Daily News the Miss World competition stood out because of it’s “beauty with a purpose”.
“I believe in making a change in the world and the biggest thing I focus on is self love,” she said.
Tysontravel / Tyson Mayr
Travel blogger Tyson Mayr has been here, there and everywhere since leaving the Southern Downs and has attracted a social media audience of more than 240,000 across Instagram, YouTube and Facebook since 2013.
