Woman accused of smashing glass door of her ex-partner’s Warwick home faces Toowoomba Magistrates Court

A 28-year-old woman was already on bail for similar offending when she allegedly smashed the glass door to her ex-partner’s home.

Australia's domestic violence crisis

A 28-year-old mother of two was almost left without her children for New Year after she narrowly avoided being remanded in custody on an alleged domestic violence breach.

The woman, who lives in a town outside of Warwick, had taken her young daughter to Warwick for a visit with the child’s father on Boxing Day, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday, December 27.

As arranged, the couple and the child met at a Hungry Jacks restaurant in Warwick from where the man had walked off with the girl.

However, the woman had a change of heart and followed her ex-partner back to his home where she allegedly smashed in the rear glass door while her ex-partner and daughter were inside the home, the court heard.

She was arrested and spent the night in the Warwick watch-house from where she appeared via video link before magistrate Kay Ryan in Toowoomba.

Her solicitor Michael McElhinney told the court the woman admitted to using ice but she was seeking counselling through Lives Lived Well.

His client would abide by all conditions should she be granted bail, he said.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden said police objected to bail, telling the court the woman was already on bail for other matters since December 4 and that the Crown case was a strong one as there was CCTV of the incident at the man’s home and police had witness statements.

Ms Ryan noted one of the charges had to be taken up to the District Court which would cause some delay.

The woman’s other child was being cared for by the accused’s parents outside of Warwick, she noted.

Ms Ryan granted the woman bail with conditions including reporting to Warwick police each Monday and Friday while on remand and have no contact whatsoever with her ex-partner.

The case was adjourned to the Warwick Magistrates Court on January 22 to link up with her other charges.
