A woman busted trying to sneak into Queensland in the boot of a car has been arrested and slapped with a hefty fine over what is reportedly her third border bungle.

Police say the woman was hidden in the boot of a car on the back of a tow truck that tried to cross into Queensland at Goondiwindi at about 3.40pm on August 18.

The male driver was told to open the boot of the sedan, where a search uncovered a 49-year-old woman hiding under blankets and clothing.

The woman was arrested and transported to Boggabilla, where she was fined $4135 for failing to comply with a Covid border direction.

Police say the 49-year-old had been denied entry into the state at the same Goondiwindi border crossing on two previous occasions.

Numerous attempted border evasions have been reported under heavily regulated interstate travel.

A truck driver was charged with dangerous driving after almost “hitting a cop” during a cross-border pursuit at Wallangarra last month.
