Warwick Watchmakers and Jewellers targeted in brazen overnight burglary

The owners of a beloved Warwick business have shared their heartbreak after their main street store was smashed up by thieves overnight, with police still searching for the offenders behind it and other crimes reported this weekend. FULL DETAILS:

The owners of a beloved Warwick business have been left devastated after their main street store was targeted in a shocking break-in overnight, leaving behind losses and damages likely worth thousands of dollars.

Police say at least three thieves went to Warwick Watchmakers and Jewellers at about 2.45am Monday, smashing their way through three glass panels at the front of the shop to gain access to the jewellery and other valuable items stored in the windows.

Warwick Police acting officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Cameron Slater said detectives were still at the Palmerin St store working with management to determine exactly what was taken.

“There’s no offenders located as yet, we’re still looking into the CCTV and that sort of thing,” he said.

A post on the Warwick Watchmakers and Jewellers revealed the owners’ heartache over the brazen burglary, saying the Palmerin St store would likely open for trading but the team would be busy stocktaking to assess the likely significant loss and damages.

“Heartless thugs and society scum have left a mark here this morning,” it said.

“We will offer a more comprehensive update in due course, however, your patience is appreciated during this time.

“Our hearts are broken, but heads will remain high.”

The store’s management team was unavailable for comment at this stage.

It is not the first time the beloved Warwick jeweller has been targeted by thieves, with burglars hitting the store in October, 2014, smashing five counters and stealing stock in a brazen heist.

Warwick police are also investigating a bizarre car fire on Bracker Rd at about 3pm Saturday.

Sergeant Slater said initial investigations indicated the driver had crashed the vehicle into a tree and then fled the scene, but it was not yet clear whether the fire was deliberately lit or a result of the collision.

It was located only a day after two drivers were charged with drink driving and drug-related offences on Warwick roads.

Police nabbed a 23-year-old Camp Hill man on Freestone Rd just before 3pm Friday, where a search of the man’s vehicle allegedly uncovered a quantity of marijuana.

He was charged with possessing dangerous drugs and is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court in June.

An Warwick P-plater ran into trouble only a few hours later, allegedly recording a blood alcohol concentration of 0.041 when pulled over on Dragon St.

The 18-year-old man was charged with drink driving and is also due to face court next month.

Anyone with information relevant to the above incidents is urged to contact Warwick Police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
