A violent assault outside a popular Warwick pub in which the victim was punched repeatedly was just one of the alcohol-related crimes that took place over the weekend.
Police say a 37-year-old man and his wife were in Guy Street near Red Rooster at about 12.30am Saturday when another group approached them.
Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Cameron Slater said one member of the group punched the victim in the head and knocked him to the ground, then punched him again.
“It’s believed to have stemmed from an earlier verbal altercation outside The Malt House,” he said.
“(The victim)’s got injuries like a black eye, split lip, that sort of thing.
“It looks like the one male who was the aggressor, but another couple of males and a female were in that group.”
Sergeant Slater said investigations were ongoing and no charges had been laid as yet.
It was less than 24 hours later that police charged a 16-year-old with a string of offences after he was allegedly driving at more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
Police intercepted the Toowoomba teenager at the corner of Warner Street and Washpool Road at about 11pm Saturday.
It is alleged the 16-year-old recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.152 and was behind the wheel unsupervised despite having a learner’s licence.
He was charged with drink driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, and driving unaccompanied as a learner.
The teenager is expected to appear in Warwick Children’s Court at an upcoming date.
A 60-year-old man was also charged with drink driving after he was nabbed on Warwick-Allora Road at about 7.40pm Friday.
Police claim the driver recorded a BAC of 0.069.
The Allora man is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on November 8.
