Car thieves have struck yet again in Warwick this week, adding to the lengthy list of property-related crime currently being investigated by police.

A 2006 Mazda 3 sedan was stolen from an Elizabeth St home between 5pm Wednesday and 4.30am Thursday, with thieves taking advantage of the keys being left inside the unlocked vehicle.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Cameron Slater said the car was sighted in Toowoomba just a few hours later, but was yet to be located and returned to its owner.

The car theft comes less than a week after thieves targeted three Warwick homes in only a matter of hours, breaking into a vehicle to steal personal belongings inside and even taking a dog from another resident’s front yard in broad daylight.

No charges have been laid in relation to any incident at this stage.

Another Warwick resident is now set to face court after he was allegedly nabbed carrying a knife through the town’s CBD.

Sergeant Slater said the 26-year-old Warwick man was stopped by police on Locke St on Thursday afternoon and searched at the scene, where he was allegedly caught with the weapon.

The man was charged with possessing a knife in a public place and is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court next month.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Warwick police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
