‘Drunk driver’ to face Warwick court after hitting three cars near main street pub

A woman who was allegedly more than three times the legal alcohol limit when she crashed into three cars while reversing near a pub on Warwick’s main street was just one of the residents charged overnight.

Police were called to the crash on Palmerin St after 4pm Wednesday, where a 57-year-old woman had collided with three nearby cars while pulling out from a car park near the Criterion Hotel.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said the Gladfield woman was found uninjured at the scene, but quickly landed in more strife when she was breath-tested and allegedly recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.171.

He said it was not yet clear from the initial police report whether the woman had been drinking at the pub prior to the crash.

The 57-year-old was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on August 8.

It was only hours later that another alleged drunk driver was busted on the Warwick roads, with police pulling over the 26-year-old man on Victoria St at about 3.30am Thursday.

Sergeant Slater said police would allege the driver recorded an even higher BAC of 0.178 and was also charged with driving under the influence of liquor.

The Wilsonton Heights man is due to appear in court on August 1.

Wednesday was a busy night on the roads for officers, with a third resident charged with drink driving overnight when he was allegedly nabbed behind the wheel with a BAC of 0.104.

The 50-year-old Warwick man is expected to face court on July 25.
