A Warwick man who has blamed his “being a dumbarse” for relying on methamphetamines to get through shift work was just one of the residents sentenced in court for drink or drug driving this past week.

Anthony Robert George Barrow was first nabbed on Wood Street at about 2pm on May 22, where he tested positive for both meth and marijuana in his system.

Warwick Magistrates Court was told Barrow was busted again for drug driving only a month later, this time on Short Street in Toowoomba.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said the 35-year-old openly admitted to using drugs when questioned by police.

A self-represented Barrow said he was working long days as the manager of a service station and used drugs to help him back up from a 13-hour shift, but wasn’t used to meth or how long it would take his body to process it.

Barrow pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving. He was fined $1100 and disqualified from driving for 10 months.

These were the other residents sentenced for drink or drug driving in the Warwick court recently:

Michelle Peta Wilson paid the price for getting behind the wheel with drugs in her system when sentenced in the Warwick court.

The 41-year-old was caught with meth and marijuana in her system while driving on Helene Street on April 30.

Police prosecutor Ken Wiggan said Wilson’s licence was suspended at the time, and she then missed her July 19 court date without a valid excuse.

Wilson appeared in court with previous convictions for drug and unlicensed driving.

Defence lawyer Hamish Chapman said his client relied her licence not only to get to work and medical appointments, but also for social outings as she was a “very lonely person” and would struggle with being stuck at home.

Wilson pleaded guilty to one count each of drug driving, unlicensed driving, and failing to appear.

She was fined $700 and disqualified from driving for four months. Only traffic convictions were recorded.

Mother-of-11 Robyn Maree Conran will spend the next month without a licence after pleading guilty to drug driving.

The Warwick woman was drug-tested on Wallace Street at about 4pm on June 2, where she recorded a positive result for both meth and marijuana in her system.

The self-represented mother told the court she knew she’d “made a stupid mistake” as she was the only one in her large household with a driver’s licence.

Conran pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. She was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Drug drivers targeted

Roy Jason Sutton has promised he is “off the drugs for good” after he was taken off the roads for one month for drug driving.

The 32-year-old was busted with meth in his system while driving on the Cunningham Highway at Thane on July 10.

The father-of-six told the court the loss of his licence would make it difficult for him to drive from Inglewood to Warwick to see his children, but acknowledged it was a consequence of his own actions.

Sutton pleaded guilty to drug driving and was also fined $350.

Being caught over the alcohol limit while on a probationary licence proved a costly exercise for Troy Frank Hera-Singh.

He was nabbed by police on the New England Highway at The Glen on July 16, where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.068.

The self-represented man said he’d previously battled a drug addiction and underwent counselling, but ran into trouble when he began substituting with alcohol instead.

Hera-Singh pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. He was fined $550 and disqualified from driving for four months.

Rae-Louise Wright claimed being busted for drink driving in the Warwick CBD was a simple miscalculation after a night out.

The 21-year-old was nabbed on Percy Street at about 2am on August 1, where she recorded a 0.053 BAC.

Defence lawyer Bonnie O’Brien said Wright was at a party earlier that evening, where she had only a few drinks hours before leaving in an attempt to be under the limit by the time she drove home.

Wright pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. She was fined $550 and disqualified from driving for one month.

No conviction was recorded.

Timothy Brian Nash was taken off the roads for a month after pleading guilty to drink driving in the Warwick court.

Police busted the 22-year-old behind the wheel with a 0.053 BAC on Meara Place, Clifton on July 9.

The self-represented man said he’d completed an online drink driving reform course since being charged, and was now going to focus on his diesel mechanic apprenticeship.

Nash pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving. He was fined $350 and no conviction was recorded.
