A Warwick man has been charged and appeared in court for the first time over a shocking broad daylight shooting on a busy street.
Jackson Bruce Watson was arrested by detectives last week and now faces one charge of grievous bodily harm in relation to the Warwick shooting, along with another 33 property- and drug-related charges.
Mr Martin was initially driven by family to Warwick Hospital before being flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he underwent surgery on the life-threatening wound.
The 37-year-old man remained in a critical condition in the intensive care unit for several days before recovering to a more stable state.
Mr Watson remained in police custody until appearing in Toowoomba Magistrates Court for the first time on Monday.
He did not apply for bail and will be remanded in custody until his matter is next mentioned on June 15.
Following Mr Watson’s arrest the previous evening, Warwick Police Acting Inspector Jamie Deacon said on Friday that the two-week search for the man came to an end when he was tracked down in a motel room in Toowoomba and arrested without incident.
Insp Deacon asked anyone who may still have information relevant to the shooting to come forward.
“I want to acknowledge the work undertaken by the officers in the search for Watson, and also the information received from members of the public which has resulted in his apprehension,” he said.
“Whilst this ends the search for Watson, we are aware that there are people out there who have information that may be beneficial to investigators, and they may now feel safe to contact police.”
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Warwick CIB on 4660 4430 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
