A Warwick man has been arrested in relation to a shocking daylight shooting in the middle of a busy street, more than two weeks after the violent incident.

The 26-year-old was arrested by detectives in Toowoomba without incident overnight. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

No charges have yet been laid.

Warwick man Jason Martin was allegedly shot while standing on Wallace St at about 9.20am on February 15, when a small silver sedan or hatchback pulled up beside him and a person inside fired a single shot into his stomach.

The 37-year-old was initially driven by family to Warwick Hospital before being flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital to undergo surgery on the life-threatening injury.

He remained in a critical condition in the intensive care unit for several days before recovering to a more stable state.

The public shooting sent shockwaves through the wider Warwick community at the time, with dozens of residents taking to social media to share their horror at the violent daytime attack.

“That’s bad and very sad for the victim too, hopefully he will recover. It’s a very mixed-up and sad world now,” Donna Hodgson wrote.

“That is very scary for the town, and even for (people) walking around town,” Hayley Curry said.
