A stack of residents have been charged with drink or drug driving and another break-in and other property-related incidents are now being investigated by Warwick police after a weekend of reported petty crime.

Offenders entered the backyard of a Wood St home at about 5.30am Saturday, where they levered open the door to a Colorbond shed at the back of the property and rummaged through its contents.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said early investigations indicated that nothing had been stolen and the culprits had managed to escape without disturbing anyone inside the house.

“Apparently a neighbour saw a light and some people hanging around the shed at that time, but obviously whoever it was has given up and gone without taking anything,” he said.

Investigations remain ongoing at this stage.

It comes less than a week after reports of a renewed surge in burglaries and thefts at rural properties across the Warwick area, with initial reports suggesting thieves are targeting machinery, tools, and other items that can easily be sold for cash.

Warwick police are also searching for the riders of two off-road trail bikes that were spotted on Dragon St at about 6.50pm Saturday driving without number plates or lights.

Sergeant Slater said the pair sped away from the patrolling officers who tried to intercept them, with suspects yet to be identified.

The on-road incident was just one of those keeping Warwick police busy throughout the weekend, with another six motorists charged with drink or drug driving in just over 48 hours.

A 19-year-old Warwick man was allegedly busted behind the wheel with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.081, well above the no-alcohol limit mandated for provisional licence holders.

He was charged with drink driving and is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on September 19.

Two alleged drug drivers were nabbed in less than an hour on Wood St on Saturday, with the 32-year-old men from Toowoomba and Warwick both expected to face court in October.

It was only a few hours later that a 22-year-old Warwick man was allegedly caught drug driving on Palmerin St, also earning himself an October court date.

A 23-year-old Maryvale woman and a 29-year-old Warwick man were both charged with drug driving on Sunday after run-ins with police on Freestone Rd and Cleary St respectively.

Both are also due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court in October.
