A Warwick teenager has been left needing treatment in hospital after a group of teenagers pinned him down and slashed his wrist in the street, only days after an alleged assault on a high school campus.

Police say a 13-year-old boy was walking home from school by himself on Marshall St at about 3.30pm Wednesday when he was targeted by three teenagers, who were reportedly dressed in black and had masks or other material covering their faces.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Cameron Slater said two of the teens held their victim to the ground while the third cut one of the boy’s wrists, then fled from the scene on foot.

He said the victim was taken to Warwick Hospital and needed two stitches to close the wound.

It is understood that at least the victim is a student at Warwick State High School.

Sergeant Slater said two boys of the same age were told to stop loitering near the high school campus shortly before the assault on Wednesday afternoon, as they were under school suspensions at the time.

“There was talk that they were in disagreement with another student and they were hanging around looking for (them),” he said.

There is no evidence to suggest these boys were involved in the attack at this stage.

Another assault as reported at Warwick High only days before the wounding, with police alleging a group of 13-year-old boys approached another boy of the same age after the final school bell had rung on Monday afternoon and punched their victim in the face.

Police from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit are still looking into the incident.

Sergeant Slater said further investigation would be required to determine whether any of the reports were connected.

All of the allegations remain under investigation as of Friday afternoon and no charges have been laid.
