One Warwick school has marked the tenth anniversary of their annual Pink Stumps Day with their students raising a phenomenal amount for charity.

Friday marked a decade since Assumption College first began the tradition, which raises funds to support people living with breast cancer for the McGrath Foundation.

Students donned pink as they took to the pitch to play a cricket game against college teachers, which the teachers won.

The school and students raised more than $6000 for the McGrath Foundation this year.

Assumption College sport co-ordinator Tom Duggan said the final tally ultimately didn’t matter as it was all for a good cause.

“This is super important to the students and the school as we don’t get much of an opportunity throughout the busy school year to do community work and fundraising,” Mr Duggan said.

“It’s a great way for us to get a bit of community buy-in and the parents really appreciate the work we do with the McGrath Foundation especially, I think it’s a great thing we can do.

“It’s just one of those good things we’ve been doing for a while so of course we want to keep doing it because it’s all about giving back.”

Assumption college teacher Bob Bell originally organised the annual event ten years ago and said both the school and students always “get right behind the event”.

Mr Bell said the school has raised more than $25,000 over the past decade for the charity, and had no plans to stop anytime soon.

“It’s something everyone can get around, so many people have been affected by cancer, not just breast cancer, so it has a lot of meaning for the students and staff,” Mr Bell said.

“Initially the first time we did it the principal, Peter Moloney, at the time and myself thought it would be a good way to build rapport between the staff and students and start the year off in a good way, and it’s built up now into a community event.”

Mr Bell said he always gets surprised when someone he wouldn’t pick to be a cricketer gets overly competitive, but ultimately the main concept was “raising funds for a good cause and having a bit of fun”.

“It’s just a good afternoon and everyone had a good time and it’s for a great cause.”
