Paul Rodney Williams caught with three bags of meth, scales, pipe following roadside breath test

A Warwick park ranger has found himself in court after a stash of dangerous drugs and utensils were found during a roadside breath test.

Australia's growing drug crisis

Following a routine breath test, police uncovered dangerous drugs and utensils which landed a Warwick park ranger in court.

Paul Rodney Williams pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs and used utensils on Monday when he faced Warwick Magistrates Court.

The 24-year-old was intercepted for a breath test on January 29, where police decided to search the vehicle.

Williams alerted police to a case hidden in his pants which contained a glass pipe, two bags of methylamphetamine and a scoop.

Another bag of ice was found at William’s feet and there was a digital scale found in a passenger door.

Williams confirmed to police the drug was ice and admitted to smoking it with the glass pipe as it “helped him” and “it was preferred to drinking alcohol”, the court was told

Defence lawyer Hamish Chapman admitted the park ranger had “used ice occasionally and recreationally”.

“It’s definitely something that needs to be sorted in the near future,” Mr Chapman said.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess warned the drug was “dangerous” and she had seen the many of the social issues called by meth first-hand in the court.

“There's plenty of better ways to deal with things, you’re a young man with good prospects, you don’t want to ruin your life with meth use,” Ms Sturgess said.

Williams was fined $400 and the items were seized. No conviction was recorded.
