First-time filmmaker Joshua Pimm launches GoFundMe to source funding for slasher film to be shot in Warwick

An enthusiastic first-time filmmaker is keen to showcase our region on the silver screen with his ambitious film debut, a horror film set in the Southern Downs. Here’s how you can get involved.

An enthusiastic first time filmmaker who has called the Rose City home for a decade is keen to showcase the region in his upcoming debut film.

Joshua Pimm, a 29-year-old movie buff, has always adored the art of the motion picture, but is ready to pursue his dreams with an ambitious first feature.

Mr Pimm’s debut will be a horror film set on a secluded property in the region and while he is cagey with the details - he doesn’t want to give too much away - the plot revolves around a group of campers who unknowingly set up their tents in the backyard of a sinister cult.

“It might not be for the faint of heart, there will be a lot of blood,” he said.

“And plenty of twists and turns.”

Mr Pimm says he planned to begin filming in the middle of this year, with a script almost finished and actors cast, it’s almost time for the stage to be set.

“Pretty much if you have a good story people will follow,” he said.

Mr Pimm said the recent success of lower budget horror films showed anyone could be a filmmaker.

No better example was produced by twins Danny and Michael Philippou, a pair of Australian directors whose film Talk to Me was shot on a low budget and was picked up and made millions.

“I watched their video (after they shot their film) and they went to Sundance (film festival) and it cemented that this is what I want to do, you can make it,” Mr Pimm said.

Relying partially on crowd-funding and partially on a lot of favours by mates in the acting industry, Mr Pimm is keen to get the idea that’s been an itch in his brain for the last few years onto the screen.

“There’s a horror movie called Terrifier which was only shot on about $30,000 which made millions, it’s easier to do than ever before and you can get you in the door,” he said.

Mr Pimm said he would partially fund filming by himself, and has opened up crowd-funding for the public to support his ambitious goal and put his name on the map.
