YouTube RackaRacka twins Michael and Danny Philippou rub shoulders with Hollywood stars as debut film weeks from hitting cinemas

Michael and Danny Philippou have had a whirlwind year after the success of their debut movie – including “fan-boying” one of Tinseltown’s biggest stars.

With the anticipation building just weeks out from the release of their first feature film, filmmaking brothers Michael and Danny Philippou have already been rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

The Pooraka twins have had a whirlwind few months since their debut movie Talk To Me blew critics and fellow directors away at the Sundance Film Festival at Salt Lake City, in January.

New York City based entertainment company A24 – who recorded a movie studio high 18 Oscar nominations this year – purchased the North American rights to distribute the film and take it to the big screen.

The film is set for a global theatrical release with pre-screenings already underway before the gory, suspense-fuelled, supernatural thriller officially hits cinemas on July 27.

But it’s the ‘pinch me’ moments along the way that the two young YouTube sensations can’t stop talking about.

“There was a party we were at, it was an A24 party and there were directors coming in and then I was like, look it’s Adam Sandler,” Michael said.

“I was just like: ‘Why are we in a room with all these people right now?’

“Then I see Adam Sandler giving me like an awkward glance because I was like fan-boying.”

But having dinner with Sam Raimi – the director responsible for the Spider-Man trilogy and The Evil Dead franchise – topped the list.

“There’s been like filmmakers and staff that have reached out to us and said amazing things,” Michael said.

“You know, sending you messages, like appreciating the film is like a validation that you feel you’re not deserving of.”

While the pair’s film has received rave reviews from their peers and critics, there’s still one group yet to have their say.

“For it to be seen now by audience members as opposed to like critics, to see how they respond to it, I hope it’s well,” Michael said.

“It could be mixed, on Rotten Tomatoes you can see the audience score and the critics score and they can be quite polarising.”

Danny said they were ultimately full of excitement.

“We just want to see how this whole cinema and box office release works because we’ve never done anything like it,” he said.

“I want them to walk away wanting to watch the movie again and for it to put them through a rollercoaster of emotions,” Michael added.

As for what’s next for the pair. Danny said you’ll just have to wait and see.

“We’ve got a script that’s ready to go,” he said.

“We definitely want to do an action film, whether it’s going to be Street Fighter or whatever it’s going to be, we 100 per cent want to do an action film.

“Hopefully sometime this year, we’ll pull the trigger, and try and shoot the end of this year.”
