‘Thicker’ cloud of rain set it hit tops of 30mm across southern Queensland

Southern Queensland is set for yet another wet weekend as experts predict a “thicker” rain cloud will move across the state on Friday.

Australia's La Niña winter: When will the rain stop?

It’s set to be another wet weekend for southern Queensland, as a rain band is expected to hit southern inland areas by Friday.

“There’s a band of cloud and rain moving across the interior and it’ll reach southern Queensland on Friday,” Sky News Meteorologist Tom Saunders said.

“Southern Queensland will see a thicker cloud of rain developing on Friday, and Saturday will see the heaviest rain.”

Southern inland parts of the state including the Darling Downs region could see up to 30mm of rain across the weekend, while Brisbane is set to see tops of 10mm.

But after a freezing start to the week, temperatures are set to stay relatively steady following the rain, with Mr Saunders saying it should be “August average” figures.

“There’ll be small temperature drops, perhaps a few degrees,” he said.

“Once the rain clears in Brisbane on Sunday and Monday, it’s forecast for 22C or 23C which is bang on average.”

Mr Saunders said the rain should also reduce the chance of severe Ekka winds hitting surrounding areas in the south east corner this weekend.

“As the rain band moves in, the winds will be fairly light. In Toowoomba for example, there’ll be light to moderate winds over the coming days,” he said.
