Sippy Downs police officer-in-charge Sergeant Todd Maguire says investigations are ongoing into the tragic death of a man in Parkville Street on Saturday night.

A man who ran from his home after hearing a loud noise on Saturday night says the confronting scene he encountered will stay with him “for a long time”.

The Sippy Downs man, who didn’t wish to be named, was one of the first responders after hearing a ‘thud’ in Parkville Street just before 11.30pm.

“I just thought someone had run into a wheelie bin … I didn’t think too much about it and then about 10 or 15 seconds later I heard someone crying out for help,” he said.

The resident, who has lived in the street for seven years, said he ran outside and what he saw next was indescribable.

“I … didn’t expect to see a foot coming out from underneath the middle of a car,” he said.

“I had a look underneath and I won’t be forgetting those pictures for a long time.”

He said it was horrific.

“I held his hand, he didn’t have a pulse,” he said.

He said several residents ran to help lift the car, with one man getting a jack to try to alleviate the pressure until emergency services arrived.

A jack was still in the garden bed alongside floral tributes on Monday morning.

Police have confirmed the 24-year-old man who died was from New South Wales.

They are working to determine whether or not he had moved to the region or was visiting.

Another neighbour, who didn’t want to identify herself, said she too heard a noise and then screams for help.

“People down this end all went running out,” she said.

“This street was a wash with vehicles, we had two fire trucks, four or five ambulances, we had 10 vehicles.

“Our kids are traumatised from it.”

Witnesses watched as paramedics worked in vain to bring the man back.

“It’s been tough … It hit me a bit last night and I was sitting there thinking about it, “ one of the first responders said.

Sippy Downs police officer Sergeant Todd Maguire was also on scene that night.

He said an Uber driver also in the street that night saw the 24-year-old “walking around in an intoxicated state”.

“He was (reportedly) stumbling, leaning against a wall, leaning against a car at one stage,” Sergeant Maguire said.

“He (Uber driver) done a delivery and then come back around and was coming back down that road and that’s when he saw the male sleeping or what he thought was sleeping (on the road).”

What happened next set off a tragic chain of events as the Uber driver reportedly pulled into the oncoming lane and signalled to the right while stopped.

“He told police he did that to try and let the car behind him know to follow him this way,” Sergeant Maguire said.

“(The) first thing he (driver of car behind) heard was a bump and then the Uber driver yell out to him and he’s finally stopped and then they tried to lift the car.

“But it was all too late.”

A 19-year-old Sippy Downs man had been driving the car.

Witnesses reported seeing him on the roadside in a state of grief and shock.

Police are appealing for anyone that has any information about the incident to contact police.

A Forensic Crash Unit investigation is under way.
