Building on fire at Caloundra as crews rush to Steve Irwin Way crash

Paramedics have rushed to the scene of a crash on a major Sunshine Coast road mere minutes after a two-storey building in Caloundra went up in flames.

Fire crews are battling a blaze in an abandoned building as emergency services rush to a crash on a major Sunshine Coast road.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said reports of a fire at Warne Terrace in Caloundra were received shortly after 3pm on Monday, July 21.

She said an abandoned two-storey building was letting off a large amount of black smoke and two firefighters are using breathing apparatuses to search the lower level.

Power has been isolated to the building.

The spokeswoman said crews were still attacking the fire and police were in attendance.

Paramedics are also on scene but have not been required to treat any patients.

In a separate incident, a three-vehicle crash was reported about 3.30pm on Steve Irwin Way at Glass House Mountains.

The spokeswoman said one car has rolled on its side.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said six patients were assessed and transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in stable conditions, including two passengers who were entrapped in their vehicles.

A helicopter was tasked by was not required.
