A Nambour man who allegedly kicked and injured a security guard during an attempted armed robbery of a bottle shop in broad daylight has been refused bail.

Police were called to the Cellarbrations Bottle Shop on Mill Lane, Nambour on Wednesday, October 13 about 2.30pm when Tyson Luke McDonald, 30, allegedly stole bottles of liquor from the store.

Mr McDonald was charged with two counts of robbery with actual violence and applied for bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday October 15.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Craig Mansfield said a nearby security guard chased Mr McDonald into an underground carpark.

Sergeant Mansfield said he then allegedly produced a weapon and threatened the 60-year-old security guard.

Mr McDonald allegedly ran off and was chased by the security guard into Quota Park, Nambour.

Sergeant Mansfield said Mr McDonald allegedly rushed at the security guard who injured his leg and fell to the ground.

Police will allege the accused then kicked the security guard several times before removing his body-worn camera and throwing it away.

Sergeant Mansfield said Mr McDonald was chased off by members of the public who came to the security guard’s aide.

Mr McDonald will remain in custody until he appears in Maroochydore Magistrates Court again on January 21, 2022.
