A young Sunshine Coast woman says she feels lucky to be alive after a crash left her hospitalised and unable to walk.

Lizzy Scholten, 25, was injured in a two-car crash at Eumundi Kenilworth Rd, Eerwah Vale, on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Firefighters used the “jaws of life” to free her from the wreckage and she was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

She suffered 14 fractures in her ribs, a hole in her lung and four fractures in her pelvis.

It was understood the people in the other vehicle were not injured.

Queensland Police confirmed officers as well as Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services responded to the incident.

A spokeswoman said police were investigating the circumstances of the crash, but no charges have been laid.

Ms Scholten said she was on her way home from a sunrise walk at Mt Tinbeerwah when she turned onto Eumundi Kenilworth Rd via an intersection and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

“I remember waking up behind the wheel on the other side of the road with my arm hanging outside the window,” she said.

“There was a woman stroking my hand trying to calm me down.”

The Zenthai bodywork therapist said it was uncertain how long her recovery would take.

Ms Scholten said the incident served as a cruel reminder to slow down and “stop overdoing things”.

“I had been juggling four jobs and was quite busy,” she said.

“This is an opportunity to slow down and accept and receive help.”

The Gheerulla resident thanked the hospital staff and emergency services.

“The idea is to get me on my feet as quickly as possible so the healing can happen faster,” she said.

“I feel so grateful to be alive and to have had the help I’ve had as quick as I did.

“I feel very broken but it's nothing compared to what it could have been.”

Ms Scholten’s friends launched a GoFundMe page with funds to go towards her recovery.

She said any leftover money would be donated to charity.
