Sunshine Coast Daily news team welcomes new journalists Eddie Franklin and Aisling Brennan

Coast’s biggest news team welcomes two new reporters. Meet them and the rest of the team. WATCH THE VIDEO

Two new journalists have joined the Sunshine Coast's biggest news team.

Eddie Franklin and Aisling Brennan are the latest additions to the Sunshine Coast Daily's newsroom, making sure the masthead continues to give the growing region a strong voice.

The move comes as the Daily embarks on an exciting new digital future - a transition to its own stand-alone section under The Courier-Mail website on June 23.

Franklin will predominantly focus on general news for the broader Noosa region, where he has grown up, and cover sport.

The aspiring football writer was hired just over a month ago after doing an internship at the Daily as part of his journalism degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

"I always wanted to surround myself with sport, no matter what field I ended up in," he said. "I figured that through media and journalism I could best fulfil that dream by reporting stories, asking questions and photographing events.

"I really enjoy discovering the ins and outs behind each story and being able to positively exploit someone's achievements or accomplishments.

"Being able to bring people together through my storytelling abilities is the biggest thing I get out of being a journalist."

Brennan, a travel junkie who grew up on the Gold Coast, spent the past two years working as a journalist in Lismore, NSW, until she started at the Sunshine Coast Daily in May.

She will predominantly cover court and crime.

"I've always had an interest in covering issues that mean something to the community, whether that's council's approval of a controversial development or the sentencing of a drink driver whose decisions have impacted the lives of others," she said.

"I believe regional journalism is crucial to ensuring community voices are heard."

The two reporters have replaced Felicity Ripper and Matt Collins.
