Man dies after head-on crash with truck in Bli Bli

Police have released more details about a tragic collision on the Sunshine Coast after a man died in crash with a truck on the first day road safety week.

Police have started an investigation after a man died in a two-vehicle crash on the Sunshine Coast today.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said police and emergency services were called to Bli Bli Rd, between Prentis and Cooney roads, to a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a truck about 7.15am today, August 26.

Initial investigations indicate the car, a Mazda 3, was travelling east on Bli Bli Road when it collided with the truck, a Hino FE, travelling the opposite direction.

The driver of the truck, a 50-year-old Nambour man, was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for assessment but was not physically injured.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a 56-year-old Parklands man, was declared deceased at the scene.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said one crew arrived on the scene at 7.25am.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a man was trapped in his car following the crash.

She said paramedics were attending to him and that he had life threatening injuries.

Earlier, the Queensland Police Service were also on the scene responding to the crash.

“One person, the sole occupant of the car, is in a critical condition. No one else has been injured,” A QPS spokeswoman said this morning, August 26.

“Bli Bli Road is closed between Prentis Road and Cooney Road.”

Acting Inspector Jonathon McBride said at a Queensland Police Road Safety Awareness press conference today the man was expected to die from his injuries.

On scene this morning an undertaker was spotted.

A witness, who said he was the first on scene, said the man died upon impact.

A police investigation continues and anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact police via Policelink or Crime Stoppers.
